Memphis, Tennessee swimming pool service contractors answer frequently asked questions

As a swimming pool owner, especially if you’re new to it, you will have many, many questions that you would like answers to. The swimming pool contractors from Advanced Pools, Inc. have compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions, and answers, here for you.

These questions include:

Can we use tap water to fill the pool? The short answer is, no. The reason is because tap water is treated before it leaves your faucet and that can impact the water in your pool. In order to make tap water “usable” for your swimming pool your contractor will need to adjust the chemicals he is adding to get the chemicals in line. He will add stabilizer, adjust for calcium hardness and alkalinity and manage the pH levels. It’s not that tap aka hose water can’t be used, it’s just that it will result in more upfront balancing and testing of the water.swimming dog

My dog loves to swim, can he join us in the pool? Your dog can certainly join you in the water, but you need to be aware that it could impact the chemical levels in the water and you could get dog fur in the filters. Also, the chemicals in the water could be harmful to your dog if he drinks it or gets it in his eyes.

Do I have to do anything with the valves or filters between cleaning? Chances are you won’t, but it does make sense to have your pool contractor label them for you. Also, you may want to ask him what settings the valves should be on for optimal efficiency. , sometimes people will change the valve to be “all cleaner”. This is never ok. Neither the cleaner nor the pipes are designed for it.While your pool filters need to be cleaned regularly, it will likely be a task that your pool contractor will undertake for you during his service visits. He will, likely, advise you to clean debris from the filter and skimmer between visits.

Can I drain my pool? The short answer to this is a resounding, no. The reason is because if you don’t understand what you’re doing, you can damage not only the pool structure, but the filter and the integrity of the pool itself can be compromised. If the pool begins floating in its hole, it can also damage plumbing and gaskets.

Are covers really necessary? A pool cover, which come in various styles, can help slow down evaporation and some can also help keep the water heated. You can buy safety pool covers that will help protect children or pets from falling into the water. If you use a cover though, make sure you clean off any standing water before you remove it; allowing standing water to fall into your pool will lead to chemical imbalances and could also lead to dirt and debris falling in.

Chances are, during the course of swimming pool ownership you will have more questions, but this is a jumping off point and gives you an idea of what to discuss with your pool contractor.
