What does it cost to own a swimming pool? This may not be a question that is front of mind when you’re putting together the budget for the family pool construction project, but the swimming pool contractors from Advanced Pools, Inc. in Memphis, Tennessee feel that you should take all of the costs into consideration.

A swimming pool is a great way to spend time with friends and family during the heat of the summer, about that there is no doubt. We urge you, though, to not only plan the budget for the pool construction project, but to consider the costs of ongoing upkeep and maintenance of your new family swimming pool

What does it cost to own a swimming pool?

  1. An above ground swimming pool costs less than an in ground swimming pool, but there are benefits to in gorund pools that an above ground pool cannot offer. Inground pools can add to the resale value of your home, they are longer lasting and are typically more aesthetically pleasing. However, if you’re not certain you want to put in the investment required for an inground pool, then certainly an above ground pool will be an ideal choice.
  2.  The building material you choose for your family’s pool project will also determine the overall cost of the project. Gunite aka concrete is the most expensive, but most durable and versatile of building materials. Fiberglass is the second most pricey with vinyl liner pools being the least expensive — but no less beautiful.
  3. Determine what pool accessories you want in your pool project. The accessories will naturally add to the cost of the project. Depending on the type of accessories, it could even add to the cost of running the pool — for example, a fountain accessory could increase your utility bills because you have to pay to run the accessory.
  4. Don’t forget the cost of maintenance of the pool that will include the cost of paying the pool service contractor or buying and storing and the time involved if you decide to clean and maintain the pool on your own. You also need to factor in the increased cost of utility bills when you’re running the equipment to keep your pool water clean and clear and bacteria-free.
  5. Factor in the cost of a swimming pool cover. It may seem like a pool cover is an optional item, but it really shouldn’t be considered that. A pool cover will keep the water cleaner and will trap any heated water if you have a pool heater installed.
