Plan a Memorial Day pool party, Advanced Pools, Inc. contractors offer tips to kick off the summer with an amazing weekend pool party for Memorial day!

Best ways to plan a Memorial Day pool party

  • Pick a theme. The party could be a patriotic Memorial Day theme or a luau, fiesta, sports theme or simply a “welcome to summer” party.
  • Send invitations through the mail, send email invitations or hand deliver invitations printed on a pool noodle or a single flip flop — give the second flip flop when your guest arrives at the party! Having flip flops on hand is a great way for guests to walk around if they don’t want to be barefoot or put their shoes back on!
  • Plan the menu. If friends and family want to bring a dish to pass, let them! Tell them the pool party theme and see if they want to pool partybring a dish that falls within the theme and the menu you’ve chosen. Opt for typical pool party and picnic foods like hamburgers or other grilled foods. You may need to cater to those on diets, those who are gluten intolerant and those open to trying new foods. Finger foods, chips, cut up veggies and fruits and desserts should also be on the menu.
  • Invest in a “kiddie” pool, fill it with ice and keep it poolside for chilled beverages. Fill pitchers with water and add cucumber slices, lemon or lime wedges or strawberries to add a fresh flavor to it.
  • Sunscreen is a must to prevent any sunburns. Grab some bottles and keep them poolside and encourage guests to cover up!
  • Decorate. Don’t forget to have enough chairs for your guests. Where will you set up food and drinks? Where will you put coolers for food that needs to be kept chilled? If you’re not using throw-away plates and utensils, get some tubs, fill them with hot soapy water and ask guests to drop their items into the tubs when they’re done eating.
  • Plan games for guests to play both in and out of the swimming pool. Consider croquet, bocce ball, volleyball nets and whatever kind of in-pool games you think everyone will enjoy.

Have a safe and fun Memorial Day and enjoy time in the pool.
