Should you repair your swimming pool?

When your swimming pool contractor from Advanced Pools talks with you about items in the pool that might need to be addressed, you’re probably wondering, “should you repair your swimming pool?” In some cases, there are swimming pool repairs that fall into the “must do” category and others that fall into the “would be nice to do” category. When you’re working with your pool contractor, ask him which category the suggested repairs fall into and you can set up a budget to get them started, if necessary.

What are some of the advantages to the various pool building materials and what might they need in way of repair or remodeling?swim exercise

  • Concrete can crack. This happens in regions of the country where there are wide temperature fluctuations. Some cracks can be patched, larger cracks may require an overhaul of the pool.
  • A fiberglass pool is considered virtually indestructible. The colors can fade because of environmental issues as well as exposure to chemicals.
  • A vinyl liner is prone to rips and tears. A small tear can be repaired. Larger rips may lead to a liner replacement.

Other repairs to consider

At some point you will likely need to repair or replace the pump and filter.  The older the equipment, the more likely it will break down. Also, older equipment is not as energy efficient as new equipment. Older equipment, if it’s not functioning properly, can lead to lower water quality.

A damaged safety fence or a safety feature that isn’t working at optimal levels is an item that needs to be addressed immediately.
