Advanced Pools, Inc. contractors help target pool filter problems

Targeting pool filter problems is not an eay thing to do especially if you’re not an experienced swimming pool contractor. What can a pool owner do if they think there is a problem with their pool filter? Call your pool contractor, or the swimming pool contractors at Advanced Pools, Inc. in Memphis, TN say noticing the problem is the first step in getting the issue fixed.

The pool filter is one of the single most important pieces of swimming pool equipment. Why? Because it keeps debris, contaminants and micro-organisms out of the pool water. These contaminants can lead to algae and bacteria growth. The pool water needs to be kept safe for swimming and keeping it safe means keeping it bacteria-free.

A pool contractor will work to assure that the pool filter is working properly and keeping the water clean and bacteria-free.

Targeting pool filter problems

Here are some items to pay attention to with your swimming pool filter:pool ladder

  1. A pool filter leak is one of the most common problems a pool owner will encounter. Thankfully, it’s one of the easiest issues to fix. When a filter leak is discovered your pool contractor will inspect it for cracks or areas of rust. If any are found, he will recommend replacing the tank but you could patch it for a short-term fix. If the filter isn’t cracked or rusted, he will check to assure the cartridge doesn’t need to be cleaned and he will inspect the filter clamp and o-ring.
  2. If pool filter materials are leaking into the swimming pool that indicates there is likely a crack or tear in the manifolds of the pool filter system. It is quite natural, however, to find trace amounts of sand or diatomaceous earth (DE).
  3. If the filter isn’t running as long as it should be, know that it’s normal for the filter to run on short cycles if you haven’t used the pool recently. If, however, you notice that the filter is continually running on short cycles it could mean the filter needs tob e cleaned, that it wasn’t backwashed long enough or it could mean that you have an incorrect pool filter for the size of your pool. Contact a pool contractor to inspect the equipment.
  4. If the pool filter pressure is too low or too high, (it should be between eight and fifteen pounds) there could be a clog or a leak. If the pressure is above fifteen pounds, this means the water flow is being restricted after it’s passed through the filter and this needs to be addressed by cleaning the filter or replacing it. NOTE: Pressure readings above thirty pounds can lead to dangerous situations as it could cause pool pump lids to blow off the pool and that could damage equipment or injure swimmers. A no-pressure reading is just as dangerous and will likely require a call to an experienced swimming pool contractor to repair it.

Now that we have “blamed” the pool filter for myriad issues, know that not every pool filter “issue” is the fault of the filter. If the pool is dirty or cloudy, for example, it could be caused by the filter or by improper water chemistry.
