Memphis, TN pool contractors address swimming pool skin sensitivity

Do you find that when you get out of your swimming pool that your skin is dry and itchy? Do you wonder “why does swimming make my eyes red?”and have you asked your pool contractor from Advanced Pools about it and let him know. If you’re experiencing red eyes and dry, itchy skin it’s probably because the chemicals are out of balance. Your pool contractor can easily adjust that so you won’t have to suffer those issues when you want to take a swim.

Why does swimming make my eyes red?

  • We will test the pool water pH and alkalinity. LEvels that are too high or too low means you will suffer skin sensitivity.
  • Test the water weekly. Rainfall or a large swimmer load can lead to the pool water chemicals being out of balance and lead to skin issues. Your contractor may recommend daily chemical testing until chemicals are in alignment. Strong chlorine odor and eye irritation is caused by too much chlorine and if you smell chlorine, it’s too much. “Free chlorine” has no taste or odor. When free chlorine reacts with bacteria, ammonia, or other waste products it is changed into combined chlorine or chloramines. Combined chlorine – free chlorine and ammonia — has a strong odor and causes skin irritation and eye redness.
  • There are chemicals of natural compounds that can keep your water clean and bacteria free and address skin sensitivity issues.
  • If you plan a pool party or have a higher swimmer load than usual this leads to the unbalanced chemicals. Contact your pool service professional for additional cleanings and chemical testing if you’re planning to use the pool more frequently than usual.

Remember, you shouldn’t have dry skin or red eyes when you’re in your pool. If it happens, give us a call for a service visit.
