Sometimes you just want to jump into the swimming pool and get in a workout. Getting in shape was one of the reasons you invested in a swimming pool for your family, right? If it was, then you will want to make the most of alone time in the swimming pool to amp up your swim routine. We do not recommend swimming alone — even if you’re alone in the pool you want to have someone poolside in the event you run into a health emergency. The swimming pool contractors from Advanced Pools, Inc. offer tips and advice for those using their pools as a personal gym!
Whether you’re swimming for fun, to get in shape or both, having a workout routine will help you make the most of your time in the swimming pool. Ask your doctor before you begin any swimming pool workout routine.
Amp Up Your Swim Routine
- Get right in. Many times we dip our toe in the water rather than just jumping right in. Don’t waste time, just get right to your pool workout.
- Have a routine. If you know what you want to accomplish while you’re in the pool it will be easier to have a workout that will help you burn fat and strengthen your muscles and get a cardio workout. WRite down what you want to accomplish, how many laps you want to swim, and other routines you need to focus on. Track your progress.
- Add music. A rollicking soundtrack just might help you swim faster!
- Don’t get stuck rut. Having a routine is ideal, but don’t swim the same workout every day. Shake it up so you can work different muscle sets every time.
- Why are you swimming? Do you have a goal? To lose weight? How much? Getting in shape for a triathalon? Have a healthier heart? Did you make a commitment to yourself that you would be more active?
Reward yourself for a job well done. A killer workout or a workout that you have stuck with for X number of days is a milestone to be celebrated. You don’t have to eat a pint of ice cream, but you should pat yourself on the back. Make note of your progress on social media. Brag about what you’ve done! You deserve it!
