Can swimming help back pain?

Exercise is critical for overall health and if you’ve been avoiding exercise becaue of back pain here are some exercises you may want to try and see if they alleviate any of your pain.

Depending on the type of exercise you do, you may want to pick up some pool exercise equipment. That equipment could include: paddles, pool noodles, kickboard, exercise bands, weights, swim fins, a life vest. swimming will help build muscles and strengthen your core and those both could relieve back pain. Exercising in a swimming pool will also protect yoru joints and muscles from pain because of the buoyancy of the water.

Try some warm up exercises:

  1. Walking back and forth
  2. Walking faster
  3. Add deep leg lunges to your walking
  4. Grab the side of the pool or your kickboard and kick for five minutes
  5. Grab the side of the pool, lift one leg and twist from side to side with your leg extended. Switch legs. Do ten reps.swim work out  Walk sideways — this will work different muscles than forward walking.Walk backwards — again this works a different set of muscles.

     Work your abs — grab the side of the pool, lift your legs and twist from side to side using your stomach muscles only.

    Swim laps — start out slowly and if you’re worried about making it from the long end of the pool to the other long end — swim laps in from the shortest sides of the pool. Once you’ve built your stamina, add full pool length laps.

    Exercise cool down

    Just as you would have a cool down routine for on-ground exercises or even in yoga, you want to have a cool down routine for your swimming exercises. After you’ve finished exercising, plan to walk in the pool for five minutes. Walk forward, backward and sideways to work all of your muscle groups.
