Did you know you can clean your pool with oxygen?

Chlorine has long been the industry standard for cleaning a swimming pool, but that doesn’t mean you have to stick with the tried-and-true, especially if your family is looking for a way to keep the water clean and bacteria-free and use fewer chemicals to do it.

The swimming pool contractors from Advanced Pools, Inc. in Memphis, TN explain cleaning a pool with oxygen is something some pool owners are researching and considering for their own pools. The benefit oxygen cleaning is the water will be kept bacteria-free and crystal clear without having to use mass quantities of chlorine.

To clean a pool with oxygen

  1. Ozone  – an active form of oxygen – oxidizes waste material in the pool water. Oxygen can clean pool water as thoroughly as chlorine. Cleaning with oxygen means you won’t really have to use harsh chemicals.
  2. The way this system works is that oxygen is pulled in from the air and pushed through the oxygenator system. This system fits into the pool’s existing filtration system.
  3. The science behind it is that the water is pushed through ozone cells; it’s ionized with an electrical current; this leads to the creation of positively-charged oxygen particles that interact with negatively-charged molecules and bacteria in the water. Silver and copper ions, naturally occurring parts of the process, will be released  and work to kill bacteria.
  4. Once the ozone has been produced it will then oxidize any floating bacteria and other contaminants and destroys them.
