Advanced Pool Care, serving Memphis, TN explain heat pump technology
Swimming pool contractors from Advanced Pool Care know that when summer is in full swing, you’re not thinking about the installation of a heat pump because the water is likely warm enough. But when summer is waning and the nights are getting cooler, not many pool owners want to think about having to give up the fun they’ve had in their pools and that’s why many of them turn to heat pumps to keep the water at a temperature that is comfortable for swimming. Let’s face it, no one wants to be jumping into pool water that is so cold it takes your breath away or that has your teeth chattering while you’re trying to talk! A heat pump can extend the length of time you can use your pool during the season and also makes night time or early morning swimming more enjoyable.
Settling on the “perfect” water temperature may take some doing, but chances are every family member will agree that having a pool heat pump installed is the first step in getting that “perfect” temperature.
How do heat pumps work?
Pool contractors explain heat pumps don’t heat water in the traditional way the way a natural gas, propane or electric heater would. Heat pumps draws in ambient air and transfers it to the water and pumps it back into the pool. Keep in mind, if the ambient air isn’t warm(ish) there will not be enough warmth to heat your pool water — that’s why a heat pump won’t be beneficial in the winter if you’re in sub zero temperatures.
A heat pump is 50 to 75 percent more energy efficient than traditional heaters.
What will your pool contractor do when installing a heat pump and what will you need?
- Thermostat to control the water temp
- The air handler that will circulate the air throughout the heat pump
- The unit itself that is the heart of the system of pulling in the warm air and pushing it into the pool water
- An air cleaner filtration system that will filter out dirt, debris and other impurities from the air
Heat pump maintenance includes:
- Cleaning fan blades in the heat pump with a moist towel
- Inspecting for loose wires or hoses
- Checking, cleaning and replacing filters
