Advanced Pool Contractors, serving Memphis, TN explain how pool heaters can extend the swim season

If you’re watching the days on the calendar speed past and notice that the nights are cooler and the days are shorter you know that closing your swimming pool is a process that is not far behind. If you want to extend your swim season, you can talk with the pool contractors from Advanced Pool Care about having a swimming pool heater installed to extend the swim season.

There are myriad types and styles of pool heaters from which to choose and in many cases it’s a personal and a budget decision that will help you determine which style to have installed.  Advances in pool heating technology means that you can get more bang for you buck with many of the models on the market today — better price to purchase one and a better ongoing cost for heating the pool water. Today’s pool heaters are designed to raise the water temperature to a level that is comfortable for most of the people in your home who use it — again, this is a personal preference as to which temperature is “most comfortable.”

Here is a bit of basic information on the types of pool heaters on the market: diving board

  1. Gas heaters are considered the most popular and will run on either gas or propane. They cost less up front to purchase and also cost less for ongoing maintenance. A gas heater is designed to maintain the chosen temperature regardless of the ambient air. They are considered efficient and will heat the water quickly.
  2. Electric heaters are another option and this runs on the same principle as your in home water heater. Electricity heats a coil that in turn heats the water. Electric heaters are slower to heat than gas heaters. In many areas, depending on the cost of electricity, it can be a costly proposition.
  3. Heat pumps are considered economical, but these pumps are best if the ambient air is warm. Because a heat pump draws in the ambient air, if it’s freezing outside, it will take an inordinate amount of time, and money, to heat the water.
  4. Solar power is one of those heating techniques that utilizes the natural resources of the sun. You will need to invest, up front, in the solar panels and equipment, but harnessing the power of the sun to heat your pool is economical and these systems will typically pay for themselves more quickly than other methods.

Finding a pool heater that is affordable up front and affordable to operate are two items to consider before you make the investment. A pool heater will extend the weeks, or even months, you spend in your swimming pool every season.
