Have you ever wondered, “should you have a pool skimmer?” If you aren’t certain, ask your pool contractor from Advanced Pools, Inc. the next time we pay a service visit or if you haven’t scheduled a visit, give us a call. A swimming pool skimmer works to keep the pool water clean by, you guessed it, skimming the surface of the water and capturing floating debris. This prevents the dirt and debris from falling to the bottom of the swiming pool.
In many pools, the skimmer is built into the upper side of the pool and the suction from the pool pump will draw the debris in, trap it and assure it doesn’t get back into the pool water. The skimmer can be easily accessed through a hatch on the pool deck and it’s convenient and easy to use.
Typically made of plastic, a surface swimming pool skimmer has a tank that protects the side. It moves across the water by the use of a “weir” that adjusts to allow only a thin layer of water to spill over the top. The water is moved quickly off the surface of the pool and can quickly and easily keep the surface of the pool clean and the pool free of debris.
Should you have a pool skimmer?
When the pool is constructed, the skimmer should be able to reach up to 500 square feet of the pool to keep the surface clean. Make certain you empty the skimmer basket as a full basket will put strain on the pool pump. Plan to clean the basket daily during swim season.
Ask if the pool skimmer in our pool is equipped with an automatic chlorinator and an automatix water level control mechanism.
