Memphis, Tennessee swimming pool contractors offer five water safety tips for dogs
Water safety for your dogs is a concern for all pet owners. If you have a dog who loves water, he just might love to spend time in your swimming pool with you. Remember not all dogs love water and not all dogs can swim! The swimming pool contractors from Advanced Pools in Memphis, TN provide safety tips for dog owners.
Water safety for your dogs
Make certain the pool area is fenced and the fence closed when no one is swimming.
If your dog jumps into the pool when you’re not around he might not be able to get out. Remove dog toys from the water so he isn’t tempted to jump in or try to reach the toy and fall in. Use a pool alarm to help keep the pool area safe and as an alert if someone jumps or falls into the pool.
Don’t let your dog swim unsupervised.
Train your dog to swim. How to get into the water and most importantly, how to get out. Install a ramp to make it easier for him to get out of the water. Work with your dog to help him use the ramp.
Keep track of your dog when he’s swimming and look for signs of fatigue. If he is, he may need your help to get out. Water safety for your dogs is just as important as it is for any children who are in the pool.
Get a dog life vest.
Regardless of how well your dog swims or how much he likes the water, it makes sense to put him in a life vest when he’s in the pool. Remember, though just because he’s wearing a life vest doesn’t mean he can be left alone in the pool.
Rinse him off when he’s done.
When your dog is done swimming, rinse him off so chlorine doesn’t stay on his skin or in his fur as it could lead to dry, itchy skin.
