Unless you live by the beach or there was a big storm that blew sand into your pool you may be wondering, why is there sand in the swimming pool? If you don’t have a good reason for it to be there — one of the children dumped a bucket in — then give your swimming pool contractor from Advanced Pool Care in Memphis, Tennessee a call.
Sand should not be in the pool — that’s the bottom line. You want to get the sand out, you also want to ensure it doesn’t happen again. We’re here to help.
Why is there sand in the swimming pool?
If you have a sand filter there may not be too much of a reason to panic, but even so, your sand filter shouldn’t be depositing sand into the pool. It coudl mean there is a broken part in the filter or that the filter isn’t working properly.
When we come out to inspect your pool and talk about the sand in the pool, we will take the filter apart and check for broken equipment or laterals. We will clean the lines that carry the water to and from the pool and to the filter. If there are broken parts, they will be repaired or replaced and the filter sand will be replaced and we will start it up again and watch to ensure no more sand is released into the pool.
Once the cause of the sand has been addressed, we will work with you to remove the sand from the bottom of the pool.
- We will brush all of the sand into one space in the pool
- The filter will be set to “filter” and the sand will be vacuumed up
- The water chemistry will be tested and chemicals added if necessary
If your swimming pool doesn’t have a sand filter and you’re not by a beach or the kids haven’t dumped sand in — you may be seeing mustard algae. It is yellow but can look like sand when it’s gathered in the bottom of the pool. If that’s the case, you will most likely want to work with a pool contractor to eliminate the algae before it blooms and takes over the entire pool.
Give us a call if you want to turn over pool maintenance to us this summer so you can spend your free time swimming, not cleaning the pool!
